Research Bio

After completing his BSc and MSc in chemistry at the University of Milano, Marco Ranocchiari pursued his PhD at ETH Zurich. Joining Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in 2010, he advanced from postdoc to leading the Syncat group, focusing on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for energy applications. In 2022, he became Leader of Energy System Integration (ESI) at PSI, driving Net Zero Energy transition. He leads the Metafuels project since 2023, aiming to synthesize sustainable aviation fuel and establish a pilot plant by 2025. Additionally, he lectures at ETH Zurich, co-authored a chemistry book for Italian high schools, and co-founded PSI spin-off novoMOF.
